It’s such a common thought pattern that many of us don’t even realize we’re living inside of it.
I’ll be happy when the workload decreases.
When the kids are easier.
When I finally hit the goal.
When I make more money.
When life looks different than it does today.
This is often called destination addiction or the arrival fallacy — the belief that fulfillment exists somewhere ahead of us instead of within the life we’re currently living. 🧠
And ironically, many people reach the very thing they worked so hard for… only to feel underwhelmed once they get there.
Why?
Because our brains release dopamine while we’re working toward the goal. Once we arrive, that emotional high naturally fades, and we often move immediately into chasing the next thing.
That’s why celebrating micro-wins matters.
Why rest matters.
Why identity matters more than achievement.
You are allowed to pursue growth and appreciate your life as it exists right now. ✨
Until we stop believing happiness lives somewhere else, we miss the moments that are already here. 🌞
