Are you the type of person who is always on the go- trying to stay ahead of the storm?
Do you work non-stop and burn yourself out because you won’t rest until everything is done?
Have you ever asked yourself how often you even get to the point where everything is done?

Better yet…
How often does the next day’s To DO list start before you ever get a chance to rest?
It may feel like a black cloud that is always overhead…and it may indicate that your on the path to BURN-OUT.

Burn-out is believed to result from chronic stress that has not been successfully managed and is characterized by three components:

– feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion

– feelings of negativism or cynicism towards your job

– decreased professional efficacy on the job

Burnout comes when people trade overworking in the current moment for the idea of some better moment in the future. Add to this that most high achievers have learned to delay gratification and believe they are stronger because they postpone awarding themselves with rest.

We think we are stronger because we keep on working. We do this because we have tied our self-worth to our work product. But when we don’t allow ourselves to rest, it leads to burnout.

Work –> Delay Gratification (Rest) –> Overwork –> False Sense of Self worth –> Further Delay of Reward –> Burnout

Vicious cycle, isn’t it?

Working hard and resting hard go hand in hand.

Recognizing that resting is meant to be part of your TO DO list is the golden ticket.
