Anger is often a way we avoid feeling what’s underneath

Anger is often a way we avoid feeling what’s underneath—fear, shame, disappointment, resentment, urgency. It’s protection, not the root emotion.

What tends to activate your anger? 😡

When someone triggers us, it’s easy to fall into retaliation—mentally or out loud. But that cycle doesn’t actually hurt them. It just keeps you stuck in the discomfort. The other person isn’t carrying what you’re carrying. 😥

The way out starts with awareness.

Notice the moment anger shows up.

Notice what your brain is telling you.

Then—slowly, intentionally—choose a different response.

Planning ahead is a game-changer. It’s changed my life. I identify my triggers in advance and create a simple “anger protocol” for how I’ll handle them next time. 👍

Get curious.

What are your pet peeves?

Why do they hit so hard?

Are you interpreting the situation as a personal attack when it may not be?

Curiosity creates space.

A plan gives you agency. 💯

If you’re ready to explore this and build your own anger protocol, I’d love to help.
