There’s a lot of talk about avoiding toxic people, but guess what?

There’s actually no such thing as a toxic person! 😲

When you allow other people’s “toxic energy” to affect your mental wellbeing and put focus on trying to remove people from your life who trigger negative thoughts, you’re actually giving away your power.

Sure, it would be easy if other people would simply adhere to our rules and ideas of how they should behave, but that’s just not the way life works.

We often try to control how we feel by removing people from our life who we believe are responsible for bringing out the worst in ourselves or hurting our feelings, but we really have very little control over what other people do. 🤷🏾

What we DO have control over is how we behave. We can take responsibility for our own actions and start to notice how we react to certain people. We can then choose to respond more effectively to the words or behaviors that trigger us.

If you find yourself feeling like the people around you are sucking the energy right out of the room, and you dread having to spend any time with them at all, then it might be time to take a look at how you can start to take control of your own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. 💯

The next time you find yourself in a room with someone whom you regard as “toxic,” try following these tips:

✔️ Ignore the behavior that you don’t like–Don’t let others press your buttons. Change the subject instead of engaging.

✔️ Don’t gossip–If you’re around someone who talks about others, realize that it takes two to have a conversation and simply change the subject.

✔️ Be direct–Ask yes or no questions when at all possible, and clarifying questions as needed.

✔️ Manage your emotions–When you have a healthy protocol for dealing with your own emotions, you won’t be so easily manipulated into reacting to behavior that triggers you.
