Women physicians are certified experts at putting others first… and, at what cost to us?
This was back in 2022- over 100 physician coaches on a boat in Austin learning more about how to do life differently… so we too could pay it forward.
Traditional medical training conditioned us to believe that our own needs can wait—that our exhaustion, stress, and well-being come second because our purpose is to serve others.
But let’s be honest… how’s that working out?
– We snap at a nurse over an “unnecessary” page—when really, they were trying to have our back.
– We rush past moments of empathy with patients because the ER is filling up.
– We beat ourselves up for not being more present with our family—too drained to enjoy the time we do have.
– And worst of all? We start to lose sight of why we chose this profession in the first place.
We WANT to be at our best. But that starts with putting ourselves first. 💜
Physicians know the power of delayed gratification—it’s what got us through training. But at some point, we have to stop delaying our own well-being.
Years ago, I made the decision to do just that. I hired a physician mindset coach and committed to prioritizing my mental and emotional health. I never looked back. Best decision ever. And, I still have a coach today and always will.
And here’s what I know for sure:
When you invest in yourself, everyone around you benefits. 🦋 Your patients. Your family. Your relationships. Your sense of fulfillment.
If you’re ready to stop running on empty and start showing up as your best self, let’s talk.
