How are your New Year’s Resolutions going? Are you still on track?
I want you to track how many urges you can allow without giving in to them.
But this is the worst time to start, right?
That’s your brain trying to keep you safe, trying to avoid hard things, making excuses again to put things off.
So here goes:
Find a clear jar, any jar.
Get some jingle bells or colorful marbles or pretty holiday pom poms.
Now… every time you succeed in just allowing an urge to be there without giving in to it or resisting it, I want you to put a marble into the jar.
No idea what I am talking about?
Read my last post on Processing Urges.
It takes 100 times to make a new habit become routine.
And your brain likes to see that progress- that external validation of what has been accomplished- so use the jar.
I am going to teach you how to retrain your brain to allow urges without acting on or resisting them, and how to make this your new routine.
Let’s use the Urge Jar help you focus on your brain when trying to lose weight, stop scrolling on that phone, or stop doing anything you know you’re doing to avoid something else.
Stop making excuses. Commit to yourself and let’s do this starting today!
